Archie (Aristotle’s nickname) left the Philippines at the age of 24. Archie, a strong willed confident man was determined to carve out his life on his terms and joined the US Navy in 1953. His naval career involved serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Archie’s well known culinary skills were developed in the Navy as a cook during his many assignments.
He continued his love of flavor after retirement, as a chef in popular restaurants such as, The Cordon Bleu, Lily Marlene’s, The Seminole Turf Club and Jai Lai, Chiki Hai Club.
One of his many duty stations included Annapolis, Maryland. It was there, Archie strolled into a family owned Italian Restaurant, La Rosa’s, and became involved in an altercation between a patron and a young woman who worked there. Archie, always strong in principle, threw the guy out of the restaurant and protected the young woman from more verbal abuse. This woman became the love of his life- Anna Maggio Porter.
Archie married Anna along with her two young sons shortly after. He continued to love, honor and protect Anna as their family grew to include three more children. His many duty stations included Annapolis, Puerto Rico, Boston, Mayport, and Pensacola, finally landing him firmly in Winter Park. It is there on Fieldcrest Ave that Archie, Anna, Gary, Barry, Carlos, Catherine, and Gina created Home. Archie proudly lived in his home, that offered him so much comfort and joy, until his passing.
A man from a poor struggling country determined to be more, created a home of stability and love, for his wife and children. Anna and Archie’s home became symbolic of “home” for many neighbors and family friends. His door was always open, and the love of food was abundantly shared, as fond memories were continuously created. Archie and Anna’s family grew to include 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Their home and love was always big enough for more. Sadly Anna passed away in 2012. Archie missed his love immensely. It is with great comfort to know they are reunited at last, the woman he loved and protected since the day they met.
