Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Myriam, their children, Mirisasha and Carlos, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Joanna, his beautiful grandchildren, Alexander, Isabella, and Marcos, and the grandpets, Tuki and Pepper. Charlie will also be remembered by his brother, Efren, nephews, Efcel and Jose, and niece, Eileen. Charlie was predeceased by his loving parents, Celestino Velez and Juana Cordero, of Isabela, Puerto Rico, and his sister, Maria, of Kissimmee, FL. Charlie’s countless cousins, extended family, and friends also join in keeping his memory alive.
Charlie was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Labra High School and later attended two years of community college. He worked various odd jobs, one which he loved to talk about – acting! But, for him, the greatest joy in his career and the biggest thing to define him was working for the mighty Eastern Airlines. Charlie worked as a Ramp Service Man for the 70’s aviation powerhouse for many years, and his love for all things Eastern never wavered.
On November 14, 1970, Charlie married Myriam, and eventually had their two children. The family moved to Orlando, FL, from Puerto Rico in 1979 to start a new life of opportunity for the children. Charlie was very proud of his kids and took every opportunity to say so. To this day, he still considered them his “nene” and “nena” as if time had stood still.
Anyone who met Charlie knew they were “stuck” being his friend from the get-go. Charlie had friends everywhere – whether it was the bank, the supermarket, the gas station, the drycleaner…anywhere you went, someone was sure to know “Carlos”. He was always quick with the jokes and infectious with his crazy antics. Charlie loved country music and spent many a night dancing at the former Towne Pump Saloon on Gatlin Ave. to his favorite, George Strait. Before he got sick, he also loved to paint houses and weirdly enough, to paint his tools either gold or silver to make them look new! But besides his family…besides Eastern Airlines…and besides country music…Charlie’s number one love was none other than the San Francisco Giants. Charlie loved the Giants to infinity and beyond, and one of his biggest thrills was attending a game with his son.
We will miss his jokes, his facial expressions, and his crazy antics. Que Dios y la Virgen te cuiden y te acompañen. Love, Myriam, Sasha, Carlos, Jr., Joanna, and the Kiddos
