

Cheryl “Cherie” Lee Isham (Van Dongen), 78, of Geneva, Florida, passed away on August 22, 2022. She was born in Flint, Michigan on May 11, 1944. Cherie graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in Lansing Michigan.
She was married to James A. Isham on September 17, 1966. Cherie worked as a telephone operator. She was a member of the Native American Lenape Nation, Southern Kechemeche Tribe, Turtle Clan and was given the name of "Wind Walker". Cherie had a passion for animals, especially dogs and horses. She was a Great Dane breeder and a member of the AKC "American Kennel Club". She competed in AKC sponsored dog shows in which she took many awards. With her love of horses she was accomplished in the art of dressage both in training and riding. She qualified for the US Olympic equestrian team trials in 1967. After she moved to Florida she continued to compete professionally and earned many awards and trophies. She also took her sons to local horse shows. She passed her love of animals on to both James & Chris.
Cherie was preceded in death by her father, William Van Dongen, mother, June Van Dongen (Welch) and sister, Judith Mohr. She is survived by her husband, Jim; 2 sons, James and Chris; 5 grandchildren, Andrea Martin, Katherine Travis, Brandy Dozier, Katie Tharpe, and Vince Swany; and 6 great grandchildren, Sierra, Jeremy, Brantley, Holly, Curtis and Caleb.
