Dorothy Nelson passed away peacefully the morning of October 24th, 2024. Known by many as "Dottie", she was born Dorothy Bernadette Young in Manchester, Maine, on December 23rd 1943, to the late Hillary and Elizabeth Young.
She graduated from Augusta High School in 1962, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In the Navy, she married her late husband CPO Robert Leroy Nelson Jr.
In 1969, after her husband retired from the Navy, the family moved to Florida, where she graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BS in Psychology. She had a meaningful career with AT&T where she retired after 30 years.
Dorothy's best known legacy is Bastian's Cattery where she bred and showed Bombay and Burmese cats in The Cat Fancier's association for over 30 years.
She is survived by her oldest son Jon Marcus Nelson; and her 2 younger sisters, Theresa Hamel from Jacksonville, Florida; and Caroline Lerette from Rancho Cucamonga, California.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her younger son Scott Alen Nelson.
