Emily Winslow Simpson passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014. She was born on November 17, 1922, in Cuthbert, Georgia, to James and Rena Winslow. Emily graduated from Vanderbilt University, Magna Cum Laude, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternity and Pi Beta Phi social sorority. Along with her husband (Jack) and son (John) she lived in Macon and Rome, Georgia before moving to Ormond Beach in 1963. During her years in Ormond she was a member of the Junior League, chairman of the Junior League Sustainers, president of the Cherry Laurel Garden Club and a member of the United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach where she was a Chairman of the Altar Guild. Emily loved her family, reading, gardening, playing bridge, her home and the great state of Georgia. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Jack Simpson, and is survived by her son John (Wendy), grandson Steve, nieces LuAnne Schwarz and Jan Smith and nephew Jim Harris. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, at 3pm at Bishop’s Glen Retirement Community in Holly Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Florida United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise.
