July 31, 1926 – May 23, 2018
Florence was born on July 31, 1926 in Manhattan, NYC, the fourth girl of five children. Due to a complication with the delivery it was suspected that the baby might not survive but indeed she did, proving that Florence was a fighter from the very beginning which served her well considering all the obstacles and challenges that life would present to her.
A talented artist, she won a scholarship to attend a highly regarded art school and then later was hired at Archie comics as a colorist, a very prestigious position.
Florence married Kenneth Feinberg and they had three children Steven, Denise, and Eric. Florence became a young widow at the age of 47 when her beloved husband Kenneth met with an incurable cancer. Florence took on two jobs to sustain the household, She was very competent in many of her endeavors; her devotion first and foremost was to the family.
With many health challenges Florence could still get through the day always thanking everyone, spreading cheer. Florence was a nurturer, she loved helping others, spreading seeds of love, kindness, hope, giving tokens of appreciation, doing this all for others yet never realizing how much she was loved and admired.
Florence was blessed to be under the care of her son in law Douglas Jay Sprung, MD who she considered a son. Because of love, attention and excellent care Florence was able to live her life happily to her last days and died peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
Dementia necessitated residing at Serenades at Longwood Memory Care, a place that provided love, compassion, attentiveness and became family to Florence, daughter Denise and son in law Douglas, and she was at her happiest at this time in her life because of the loving care she received.
Florence was also blessed to be cared for by Vitas Team 204 staff who provided all the care that was needed with love and compassion. As sad as one might consider the situation, it was in fact the most meaningful time and joyful time in Florence’s life receiving all the attention she needed and deserved after years of providing it to others. Serenades at Longwood and Vitas Team 204 were a blessing in her life. Thank you to Rabbi Maurice Kaprow for being there for providing blessings and comfort.
Most of all, Florence was a blessing to all who knew her and she will always be remembered. Her imprint remains in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.
All of Florence’s Funeral arrangements were attended to by Baldwin Fairchild under the outstanding care of Mr. Richard Owens, Funeral Director providing Florence with honor, dignity and attentiveness at the end of her life.
