Helen Ernest, the renowned ‘red-head’ of St. Cloud, Florida, left this cruel world on February 24th, 2021. Helen was the “Queen of Quips,” always quick with a one-liner, and was just as fiery as her red hair would suggest. She loved her plants, she loved her cars, and she loved Bruce Springsteen. A gifted athlete, there wasn't a sport she didn't like (go Eagles!). In her youth she played first-base outside of Philadelphia, she excelled at basketball, and was a homerun hitter. Later, she hilariously kept an aluminum bat near her at all times, maybe for nostalgia but more likely as a weapon to repel an intruder...or a squirrel...Helen was easily startled.
When she was born, Helen’s Nana nicknamed her “Rosebud” because her little mouth mirrored the perfect image of a tiny rose. Her Nana, as it turns out, was prophetic. Helen was a rose among us; unique, beautiful, fragile, and in her thorns she found protection.
She leaves behind six siblings (Mary Mulcahy, Nadine Connor, Alexis Roberts, Benjamin Connor, Meg Connor, and Chris Connor), and they each have special memories of their sister (some memories are best kept between siblings, though). She memorably shared her love of laughter with her nieces and nephews (Edward Lombard, Joe Connor, Matt Roberts, Aurora Connor, Fiona Connor, Lily Clurman, Sam Clurman, Kevin Connor, and Kristy Connor). She has, also, three beautiful grandchildren (Eli, Makenzie, and Ellie) whose photos she stashed anywhere (and everywhere) she could find.
Her life’s joy, of course, are her loving daughters, Rebecca and Tara Ernest, who live now as walking tributes to their adoring mother. Simply put, they are incredible women because Helen Ernest was an incredible woman. She was one-of-a-kind, truly, and her family and friends will remember her always. This loss is a devastating one, but in her memory, please try to have a good laugh today.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kids Gardening (https://donate.kidsgardening.org/give/302178/...), which supports two things Helen loved. To donate in Helen's honor, just check the box that says "Dedicate my donation in honor or in memory of someone." Feel free to donate anonymously or add her daughter Rebecca's email ([email protected]) to notify the family.
