

Hortencia graduated from Erasmus High School and received an LPN Degree from Elizabeth Seton College. Hortencia had a career in Nursing with the Department of Veteran Affairs.
Hortencia was a Mentor in the PRIDE Program at The Orlando VA, retired Member of the Black Nurses Association of Central Florida, fashion show coordinator and model in New York City for EPD Productions, a retired member of the Central Florida Writers and Publishers Guild, fitness instructor for Fit To Dance in Orlando and Ocala, Florida, a past member of the Negro Ensemble Company in NYC, volunteered at the Ocala Civic Center Theater, a published author “See My Glory, Read My Story” and a motivational speaker. She had a passion for cooking, writing, poetry and traveling.
She was survived by daughters, Thaese Phillips, Shante Hill; grandchildren, Chaz Fisher, Samuel Alston III, Isaiah Fisher, Mikolaj Fisher; brothers and sisters, Elcidro Gibbs, Leroy Pantophlet, Marlon Copra, Elroy Philips, Clemenceau Flemming and Sandra Lindo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eudora Gibbs and William Philips.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 412 E. Kennedy Blvd., Eatonville, FL. 32751.
