She was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico – her “Isla Borinquen.” Isabel graduated from University High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Puerto Rico.
Isabel had a career in Elementary Education and taught students at St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Winter Park and in the Orange County Public Schools system, where she worked for many years in the Migrant Student Education Program. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church and of the Orlando Science Center, where she volunteered and was awarded an honor for Volunteer of the Year. She particularly enjoyed teaching the “little ones” at the science center’s Kids Town.
Isabel had a passion for basketball, a legacy from her youth in Puerto Rico where she played basketball in high school and college. She was an avid Orlando Magic fan. Isabel was frequently found fishing off her home dock with her pal, Nicki the cat, who waited patiently for the day’s catch. Isabel also enjoyed gardening and always had fresh flowers at home. “I must have flowers, Always and Always” (C. Monet). If you want to toast to a life well lived, do so to Isabel, with a cold Coca Cola in hand!
She was survived by her children Isabel, Patria, and Marissa; her grandchildren Michelle and Melissa; and her great grandchildren Miles and Ella, who she loved “To the Moon and Back.” She was also survived by her sister, Julia Lord.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., September 24, 2020, at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
