

Jacqueline Joiner,Denton, born in Tampa, FL on January 27, 1931, died peacefully on June 4th surrounded by her daughters. She is predeceased by her husband, John Robert Denton and a son, Kent Hobbs. Jackie was a pioneer businesswoman in an industry long-dominated by men. With a strong educational foundation in accounting from the University of Florida, she successfully owned and operated Joiner Van and Storage Service, expanding it to three transportation agencies in Orlando, Tampa and Cocoa. Jackie loved living and working in Orlando and Winter Park, serving on the City of Winter Park Planning and Zoning Board, and on the first Council of 100 in Central Florida. She was Chairman of the Florida Symphony’s Pops Committee in the late 60’s and a member of the Country Club of Orlando, Burlingame CC in Sapphire Lakes, NC and Interlachen CC of Winter Park. She was an avid sportswoman, an accomplished golfer and tennis player. In her infectious enthusiasm for tennis, she sponsored for many years the Girl’s 16 and under National Clay Court Championships in Orlando and was the founding sponsor of Les Grandes Dames Tennis Tournament. Jackie’s personal life was rich with friendships and activities. She and Bob piloted their Cherokee 6 all over the country, entertained at homes in Florida and North Carolina and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. Jackie was an avid gardener, accomplished bridge player, exceptional cook and devoted mother. She is survived by daughters, Elise Schramm (Rick) and Kathryn Abelove (John), and son, Randall Hobbs (Cynthia); grandchildren, Ricky, Ellis and Patrick Schramm, Joiner Abelove, Jonathan Loftis, Corey and Ansley Hobbs. A memorial service will be held at Rollins College, Knowles Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 9th at 11:00, followed by a graveside service at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park.
