James Hubert Falkner Sr.

Falkner, James “Jim” Hubert Sr., 78, of Winter Park, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 20, 2012 in Winter Park, FL. He was born in Orlando, FL on March 23, 1933. James graduated from Orlando High School and attended Georgia Tech University. After college, he served in the U.S. Army. Following his service in the military, James was a roofing contractor and was President of Falkner Inc. which was established by his father Fred in Orlando in 1921. He is survived by daughter Lisa Lebofsky (Mike), daughter Kristy Horan (Joe), son James Jr. (Christy) and grandchildren Torin May, Tanner May, Patrick May, Kaylin Falkner and Camden Falkner. He is further survived by his sister Ruth Windham (Don), brothers Joe Falkner (Myrtle), David (Sherry) and several nieces and nephews. James was very active in the roofing industry, serving on the board of the National Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association as well as serving as President of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association. For several years he was a consultant to the University of Florida College of Building Construction. He also developed the Certified Professional Roofing Certification Code for the State of Florida. James was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of East Orlando and refereed local high school football games. Golf was his favorite weekend hobby. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, 1350 West Fairbanks Avenue, Winter Park, FL. There will be a celebration luncheon to honor James following the service.
