OBITUARY

Jason Anthony Dawson Cumming

April 23, 1977October 21, 2019

Jason Anthony Dawson Cumming lovingly called “Bigg J” was born on April 23, 1977 in San Fernando, Trinidad, West Indies to Roger and Mary Cumming.

Jason touched the lives of many with his smile, generosity and his trademark sense of humor. He knew the importance of life and never slowed down. He lived life to the fullest and was always loving, positive and encouraging. Once you crossed paths with Jason it was as if his DNA was automatically implanted in you and a forever bond was formed and you became family. Jason was the type of person that had a magnetic presence. He was dedicated to his family and was always planning something for gatherings.

Jason worked hard and played harder. He worked at the HGVC for 14 years where he was loved and respected. We ask that everyone who knew Jason celebrate his life in their own way. As only Jason would say, “Since I will not be around, I leave you with these words “Who Jah bless, No Man Curse.”

He leaves behind to cherish fond memories his wife Lynette Cumming whom he shared 12 loving years of marriage; his parents Roger and Mary Cumming, grandson Adonis “AJ/Bodine” Marshall, daughter Ayana Marshall, brother Christopher Cumming (Meribeth), sister Shelley Cumming and a host of family and friends.

The family expresses appreciation and thanks to all for your condolences, prayers, and celebrating Jason’s life! There will be a repass in Jason’s honor immediately following the services at Maison & Jardin Event Center – 430 Wymore Rd. Altamonte Springs Fl. 32714

Jason was a lighted candle shining bright every day. He would call or text and it just brightens the day..if even for that moment. He loved my daughter from before birth to his last day and for that I will always be grateful. Not a bad or evil bone in his body. Positive vibes all the time..even when he cracked a corny joke haha. We used to say he from a different breed....and it is true! Stellar performance while here sir...Job well done. Love you always...Gone but not forgotten.

I met you 9th grade year. At Lyman High. You were so funny, and no matter how rude I was to you. You always had a comeback. You turned out to be one of the most amazing friendship experiences I have had thus far in this life. You knew how to turn a horrible day into the most amazing day just by being you. You were a healer my friend. I will always be forever grateful for your friendship. You taught me how to be myself unapologetically. I will forever be your friend. I will forever speak beautiful words about you. I will always remember you for your beautiful heart. Planet Earth will not be the same without you.

My nephew Jason, memories of you will never be forgotten.
One of the many memories of Jason was when he was 9 years old. It was a Saturday afternoon and there was construction work going on at his uncle’s Martin home in Tableland, Trinidad. Jason and his dad Roger arrived just as the construction workers began packing up their tools and equipment. Jason approached one of the workers and began to tease him by showing him funny faces. Lol. The worker’s name was Tobago (Tobago, in reality is the sister island of Trinidad). Tobago got upset and told his boss Martin to speak to this little boy to stop teasing and making faces at him and if he does not stop, he would like to have his salary for the day and travel back to Gran Couva city where he lived. The other workers laughed soo much that in the end Tobago had to laugh too. Jason went on to be famous and lit up any space around him by being a spark of light by bringing a smile to everyone in his presence. My nephew Jason, your life on earth was short but God kept a place for you in Heaven. May your happy soul rest in peace in the arms of our God. Love you forever. Uncle Chongie

Jason was a student at Winter Springs Elementary school and was one of my students. He was a very memorable person that was liked by everyone, I guess that is why I still have fun thoughts about him. He will surely be missed. My family sends our condolences and prayers to your family.

Jason, I will miss your loud mouth, laughter and tight hugs. I guess Sunday dinner stew chicken will have a new owner. You touched our lives in such a positive way and I will forever cherish the memories. Fly on my brother on the wings of the snow white dove. Till we meet again over yonder .... Fly high, soar cause you've earned those wings.

Hi Lynette,

May God comfort you and your family during this time of great sorry. God only knows why this has happened and I know that with God, you will get through this. I pray that God gives you comfort and strength in knowing that your precious Jason is with him and knowing that you will see him again one day in Heaven. A bright spark has left us to join all the other stars in the sky.

There are some people that you meet and as the old people say "yuh blood take them" ...this is how I felt around Jason. We may not have been close but each time I interacted with him I felt in my heart, "this is my kinda people". Light-hearted, always joking, super loving, positive, affectionate and caring. These people are indeed a treasure when you are lucky to bump into them through life.
When I heard of his passing that seemingly ordinary morning, I felt at peace, no sorrow for I know he lived his life awesomely...doing what he loved. Wasn't it just a few days ago I saw a post on social media with him and his crew celebrating his years contributing to Miami Carnival? How many of us are living our truth, doing what we love and really enjoying our life ? Let this be a reminder to all of us to live each day to the fullest and enjoy the journey...not tomorrow, not when you retire, not when you win the lotto...NOW.
Thank you J for choosing us to be your family. I have a smirk on my face now as I picture Jason as a DJ in a trini fete in the after life with Leo bubbling a pot and Ann dancing in the background.
Til we meet again!
And to those he left behind, I can only imagine the void he has left. Please pass on the kindness, affection and generosity to someone else as this is truly one of the best ways to make him live forever.

Big hugs, love and light!
