In the quiet hours before sunrise on Sunday, October 26, 2025, Leo Umali Pagkalinawan passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved most. Born in Manila, Philippines to Igmidio and Trinidad Pagkalinawan, Leo is survived by his devoted wife, Lulu; his three daughters, Angelyn, Annalee, and Annamarie; his sons-in-law, Isaac and Francis; seven grandchildren—Dylan, Harley, Taylor, Brendan, Ryan, Nicholas, and Lauren—and four great-grandchildren—Leo, Aria, Anthony, and Iris. Leo was preceded in death by his siblings Normie, Sollie, Nellie, Jessie, Butch and is survived by his beloved sisters Elsie, Tita, and Ruby.
Leo leaves behind a remarkable legacy, one he devotedly built after stepping into the role of family head following his father's passing in his early adulthood. Through a distinguished 25+ year career in the United States Navy, Leo supported his entire family with unwavering dedication and generosity. He was known for his quiet strength, deep sense of duty to family and friends, and the way he always put others before himself. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, Leo gave all he could—to his loved ones and the values he held dear.
Second only to his love for God, Leo cherished his family with all his heart. His love for his grandchildren was truly extraordinary. Affectionately known as 'Lolo,' he taught each of them how to swim, played basketball with them, and spent countless hours outdoors, always watching over them to ensure they were safe and happy. Whether it was a trip to McDonald's, a visit to the park, or any place that brought them joy, Leo was there—present, generous, and full of love. Even as age began to limit his physical strength, he continued to share his kindness and warmth with his great-grandchildren, passing on the same love and care that defined his life.
Leo lived a vibrant and meaningful life. His kind heart, gentle smile, joyful laughter, and boundless love will forever echo in our hearts. He touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, embraced by the eternal love of God, whom he served faithfully throughout his life.
