Lorraine Correll Johnson, 88, a long-time resident of Winter Park, Florida, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019. She was born in Catonsville, Maryland, to the late Daisy Mae Klotz and Harvey Robert Correll. She was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by her siblings, Dr. Paul Correll, Rena (Harold) Walker, Ruth (Ted) Seigman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob Johnson, Sr. Lorraine was survived by her four children, Teresa Weakley, Debra Brown, Bob Johnson, Jr. (Jennifer), and Steve Johnson (Kristi). She had 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris), Sarah, Jessica (Jeffrey), Beth, Scott, Christopher, Evan, Luke and Lily and 8 great grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary, Jackson, Jacob, Hadley, Avery, Bryce and Brant.
Lorraine graduated from Gettysburg College where she met the love of her life, Bob Johnson, Sr. They were married on October 20, 1950 and lived in Catonsville, Maryland. In July of 1957, they moved to Winter Park, Florida, where she lived for 62 years. Lorraine and Bob were very active in the ministries of St. John Lutheran Church where they were affectionately known as Mama and Papa J. She taught Sunday School, was a youth advisor for Luther League, part of Koinonia, Via De Cristo and OWLS (Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors) ministries as well as served in her WELCA Circle, with the LWR quilting group, and Dorcas ministry.
Lorraine and Bob loved their summer home in Newland, North Carolina, and upon retirement spent their summers and falls in her beloved mountains. She attended Church of Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was active in their quilting ministry as well as helping with fellowship meals, Bible study and prayer groups.
Lorraine touched many lives from keeping in touch via “round robin” and in prayer with her college sorority sisters, to serving humbly and lovingly at St. John and Church of Our Savior Lutheran Churches, to being a light in her family’s lives, sharing God’s love and grace with all.
A celebration of life service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Orlando Avenue, Winter Park, Florida on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception for family and friends in Schaeffer Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
