Norvelle age 92 , NC as he was known passed away peacefully April 16 2018 . NC was born and raised in Canton, North Carolina . Like so many other men in the early 1940s he joined the service, married his high school sweetheart and started a family. He didn’t know at the time but this was the start of a long career in the US Navy and the start of his legacy of quietly helping people. NC signed up to be a Corpsman which is part nurse, part doctor and part psychologist. His quiet calm personality was needed as he helped hundreds of service personnel heal form their physical and mental wounds. This required him to be gone months at a time on ships all over the world. He arranged to have his monthly pay sent home to support his family usually only keeping as few dollars for himself. He would volunteer for hazardous duties because it paid a little more. The sacrifices were hard but he knew if he stayed in the Navy that it would help him take care of his family for a long time. That drove him to study and take every test to get promotions which paid off getting him to the highly respected rank of E9 Master Chief and he was well known for this achievement.
NC retired from the Navy after 34 years of active duty and went to work in the civilian world for another 30 years at various companies before retiring completely. NC was a very quiet conservative man who lived a very long, honest, healthy life and always loved his wife and supported his family. He was a man of few words and although he is forever quiet now, what he did in his lifetime proves his actions spoke louder than any words he could have ever said. He helped many people during his life time and asked nothing in return.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edith, sister Lois, daughters Linda and Melita, son Ron, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Michael. A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Goldenrod Monday 4/23 at 2:00pm with a 1:00pm visitation
