Hallelujah!
Ruby will be remembered for her servant’s heart. She worked tirelessly throughout her life and was always ready with a helping hand. She loved her family in abundance and she will be missed by all those who knew her. Ruby was a hugger; you were a stranger to her for only a moment. She had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and she would always tuck the tag in your shirt or adjust your necklace if it was askew.
Ruby was born in Washington, D.C., to a military family. In her early years she lived on post in Arlington, VA, and then in Glen Burnie, MD. After graduating high school she briefly worked for the telephone company before marrying and raising her family. Through her husband’s military service, Ruby lived as far away as California, Guam, and Hawaii before settling in Orlando. In Florida, she again worked for the telephone company and retired as a supervisor.
Ruby’s family was the center of her earthly life. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Chuck, and is survived by her son Shawn (Jessie), daughters Roxanne (Steve) and Jeannie (Neal), and 15 beloved grandchildren and their spouses: Daniel (Shanna), Stephen, David, Kara, Suzanne (Josh), Alex, Robert, Teele (Bryan), Sean, Olivia, Joshua, Elise (Aaron), Mimi, James, and Peter.
Ruby came to know Jesus as an adult and her life changed dramatically. She loved to be surrounded by her church family and always sang in the choir at every church she attended. After she retired she devoted herself to her church’s music ministry.
Ruby was a taxpayer’s dream, rarely being sick and needing doctor’s care routinely twice a year to get her singular daily prescription refilled. Her family is grateful that this final illness was brief. In the end, Ruby was surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. Her final hours were filled with hymn singing, Bible reading, and the recounting of family stories.
