Suzanne McCutchen left this life to be with the Lord on December 28, 2015. She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, the second of three children to Earll and Yvonne Sheridan. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Nina Pearl Cothran. Her love of children was evident early when as a teenager she volunteered as a nursing assistant on pediatric floor. This love became a lifelong pursuit of service. After graduating with her RN degree from Alexandria, Virginia, she went to DC Children's Hospital. Here she served as a floor nurse in both the newborn nursery and NICU. After two years, she left to become the head nurse of pediatrics at the University of Texas, San Antonio. It was here where she and John met while he was doing his internship in Orthopaedics. Later they became engaged and married. John was to do his residency at the University of Tennessee, so they moved to Memphis. Here Suzanne continued to advance in her profession as she became the Clinical Vice President and Director of Nursing at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. She was, at that time, the youngest Director of Nursing in the state. They were later blessed with the birth of their daughter, Katie. Suzanne wanted to be a stay at home mom, so she left professional nursing to enjoy her time devoted to her family. Her desire for service continued then as a foster mom having many children in their home, all of whom needed her special skills. Many days were spent as she and Katie changed dressings, gave them their medication, and visited doctors as she nursed these children back to health. Suzanne's life of service was not confined to medicine. Throughout Katie's childhood, she served as a homeroom mother, bus driver, and a Board Member at The Master's Academy. As a long time member of her church, Northland, a Church Distributed, she was involved in several ministries. The one to which she was most devoted was of supplying small groups with study materials, DVD's, and videotapes. Her ministry was not only to members of Northland but also to many churches and small groups across the east coast. Unfortunately, Suzanne was subject to a lengthy illness, but she never let it impair her love of life or service to others. She will be sorely missed by those who loved her. She is survived by her husband John, her daughter Katherine McCutchen Lormann and her brother E. C. Sheridan of Danville, Virginia. A service for celebration of her life will be at Northland Church in Longwood on Saturday, January 9th at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Northland Church (530 Dog Track Road, Longwood 32750).
