

Tom Long Sr., 83, of Orlando passed away suddenly on Jan 24, 2015. He was born in St Paul, Minnesota on October 12, 1931. He was the son of the late Warren E. and Stella Sandkamp Long and was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Jerome, sister Patricia Ann Fitzenberger and son Robert W. Long. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marie Weatherly of Orlando, children; Tom Long Jr. (Joyce), Susan Marti (Joe), Laura James (Tom), Barb McNally (Harrison), grandchildren; Mathew Long (Katie), Stephen Long (Catherine), Amy Chaplin (Bobby) Kevin Graves (Keisha),Phillip Graves (Bri),Leanne Claudio (Mike),Tasha Callum (Michael), Sierra Gibson, and six great-grandchildren.
Tom was a graduate of Cretin High School and attended the College of St Thomas. He enlisted in the Navy in 1951, and served on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam during the Korean War. Tom began his work career in 1954 as a cashier with Suntrust Banks (formerly the First National Bank of Orlando). He was also a loan officer, eventually becoming President of the Central Park office and a recipient of the prestigious Banker of the Year award. A one-time golfer and fisherman, in his later years Tom became a voracious reader of mystery novels and an avid garage sale enthusiast who never missed an opportunity to pick up a bargain. Tom and Marie loved to travel and took many wonderful cruises together. He also loved working in the yard and tending to the many stray animals and pets that made their way to his and Marie’s door step. Tom was a good friend and neighbor and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was also a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by all.
A visitation will be held at 1 pm followed by a funeral service at 2 pm on Saturday, January 31,at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park; 125 N Interlachen Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789.
