

On Saturday, December 7, 2013, Alvina Thomson, Grenfell, SK, passed away in the Grenfell & District Pioneer Home at the age of 103 years. She was predeceased by her parents Adam and Elizabeth (Wirth) Markwart; her husband Isadore Weekend who passed away December 3, 1967; married Urban Thomson on March 8, 1968 (Urban passed away January 1, 2000); brothers Valentine (Vi), Ferdinand, Jack (May) and William (Jean); sisters Frieda (William) Mantay, Edith (John) Hirsch, Minnie (Mike) Leier, Eleanor (Jack) Davies, Emma and Evelyn Roset, and her Sisters-in-law Elma Markwart and Thersa Markwart. Alvina is survived by her brothers John, Herb and George (Evelyn), brother-in-law Ted Roset and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Alvina was born on September 26th, 1910 in Southey, Saskatchewan, to Adam and Elizabeth (Wirth) Markwart and was the fourth of 14 children. Alvina loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and enjoyed going to church and playing her accordion and guitar. She sang with The Gospel Singers and was instrumental in getting others involved in music. Alvina was always rejoicing and praising God. The celebration of Alvina’s life will take place in the Grenfell Apostolic Church on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastors Merv Switzer and Clint Cornelius officiating. Interment in the Grenfell Cemetery.
