It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Arleen passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Arleen was a very special person and loved by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband Val, sons Peter W. Harbus (Junior) and Garth Neil Harbus, her parents Walter and Viola Rumble. Left to mourn are her two daughters, Cheryl Harbus (Owen Sound, Ontario); Gloria Harbus (Bill) (Regina), one brother Clifford, sisters Doreen and Maxine and numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life Arleen loved to garden, sharing the bounty with friends and family. She was a fantastic knitter, and enjoyed sewing. Her passion though was dancing - the polka her favorite, adding that extra step. Val and Arleen travelled to every dance hall in the county. You could always count on mom; her love for her family was unconditional. Arleen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Broadview Centennial Lodge in Broadview became her new home. She always praised the staff for taking such great care of her; she even had a very special chore folding towels each morning. When the entertainment for the week was the local band, she was up dancing. Our family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Broadview Centennial Lodge for the compassion and kindness you have given to our dear mother.
There will be a private graveside gathering for the immediate family at the Balcarres Cemetery.
An Alzheimer’s Request
Do not ask me to remember.
Don’t try to make me understand.
Let me rest and know you’re with me.
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
I’m confused beyond your concept.
I am sad and sick and lost.
All I know is that I need you.
To be with me at all costs.
Please do not lose your patience with me.
Do not scold me or curse or cry.
I can’t help the way I’m acting.
I can’t be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you.
And that the best of me is gone.
Please don’t fail to stand beside me
And love me till life is done
