On Wednesday, September 12, 2012, Barbara Rose Virag, Grenfell, SK, died at the age of 101 years. The funeral mass will be celebrated in the St. Columbkille R.C. Church, Grenfell, SK, on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. George Thattuparampil. Interment in the Grenfell Cemetery. Predeceased by her husband Louis in 1989; her parents Frank and Rosalie; an infant grandson Michael Franklin Virag in 1968; sister Rosalie (Sally) Chelovsky in 1971 and a childhood sister in Hungary. Barbara is survived by a brother Frank Millig, Kipling, SK; her children: Franklin (Jean) Virag, Grenfell, SK, Margaret Galbraith, Flin Flon, MB, June Crofford (George Thomson), Regina, SK and Lloyd (Rose) Virag, Lebret, SK. Barbara is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ronda Virag (Craig Getz), Calgary, AB, Curtis Crofford, Regina, SK, Rob Galbraith (Linda) Sarnia, ON, Felecia (Jason) Watson, Yellow Grass, SK, Bradley (Brenda) Virag, Calgary, AB, Lori Galbraith, Flin Flon, MB, Jaymes (Pam) Galbraith, Lloydminster, AB as well as nine great grandchildren: Jordan Getz, Torri Bjarnason, Sydney and Londyn Galbraith, Marshall, Walker and Nathan Watson and Caden and Ava Virag. Barbara was born in Borusvenue Hungary on October 27, 1910 to Frank Millig (born Hungary, July 4, 1875; died July 26, 1967) and Rosalie (nee Oster) Millig (born Stana, Hungary, February 28, 1885; died February 5, 1977) and came to Canada with her family in 1924 to Peebles, SK. She went to work as a hired girl at various farms in the area to help support her family. She married Louis Virag on July 14, 1936 and they farmed in the Windthorst district until retiring to Grenfell in 1965. Barbara enjoyed her retirement, her garden, flowers and her neighbors. She especially enjoyed visits from her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She moved to the Grenfell Pioneer Home in 2005. Barbara had fond memories of her childhood years in Hungary and despite declining health in recent years she always retained a keen mind, her dignity and her love for her family.
