Betty is survived by her loving husband Dave of 36 years, her children Donna Thomson (Janine, Darcy, Brandyn), Bradley (Damian, Cheylene, Brandon), Daryl (Sharon, Wendy, Matthew, Shawn, Meghan, Ami-jo), Brenda-Lynne [Laura], Bryan (Tommy, Cory, Robyn), and Kevin [Manika] (Joshua, Brailyn, Asia, Elizabeth, Lucas). Predeceased by her father Lawrence Thompson Sr.; mother Elizabeth (nee Gordon); three brothers: Lloyd, Lawrence (Ace) Jr., and Raymond (Boss).
Betty loved her work as a Registered Professional Counsellor and Lifetime Life Skills Coach. She felt privileged to have the opportunity to return to where she was born on CTK, and to work in a profession she truly enjoyed and loved. She was passionate about helping others through her counselling, caretaking for her parents, her volunteer work, and even rescuing many animals throughout her life. She enjoyed learning, travelling, dancing, music, movies, and inspiring others. Above all, she loved being with her husband, children, and family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who was generous, kind, supportive, and fiercely protective of those she loved, and anyone considered the underdog. A great storyteller, a bold advocate, a kind soul with a memorable laugh, a resilient person, a strong and remarkable woman, Betty created laughter wherever she went and this is without doubt part of her legacy and how she made her difference in our world: she helped others heal through well timed humour, and cared to take the time to listen, support, and empower others. And this complements well her spirit name Tawáci Waštè Wiya (Good Mind Woman).
