“You are a good and trustworthy servant. You have been faithful with a small amount, so I will put you in charge of a large amount. Come and join in your master’s happiness!”
- Matthew 25.23
After nearly 94 years of a life well-lived Elizabeth (Betty) Kress was embraced in the arms of God’s divine love on June 19, 2022.
Betty known affectionately as Grandma Kress or Grandma Betty was crowned the best potato salad and cabbage roll maker, along with the best provider of snacks and mints (in recycled jars of course) by her 11 children, 45 grandchildren and over 90 great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory and honour the fullness of her life.
Betty was woven into the life of her family, friends, and community. Her generosity with care packs sent, babysitting, and long phone visits. Her wisdom like advice in all matters, “how-to” suggestions, recycling before it was a thing, serving on the Kendal village council, and the Altar Society. Her faith included a deep prayer life, always seeking to learn more, and endless hours dedicated to St. Ignatius Parish in Kendal.
Betty was the feisty, faithful, and fun-loving soul mate of Martin Kress, who together raised a family and farmed the land. Betty cared for many, served the community, always had room for one more at the table and one more story.
This remarkable woman knew how to enjoy a good time, pick a good song, lead by example, and encourage others to step up to their best. Her quick wit, zingers, encouragement, genuine delight in people (especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), and her smile always lit up a room.
She will be remembered and celebrated by her children
Doreen (Adelard); Paul (Therese); Linda (John); Lorraine (John); Lorette (Richard); Jerome (Debbie); Audrey (Keith); Cynthia (David); Lionel (Sandra); Jacalyn (Darwin); Dave (Carolyn) and their families, along with one sister-in-law Magdalena.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Martin, her parents, in-laws and siblings, daughter Delphine, son-in-law John, and Grandsons Nicholas and Bradley.
The vigil prayers was held in St. Ignatius Church, Kendal, Saskatchewan on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass was celebrated in Holy Family Church, Odessa, Saskatchewan at Monday, July 4, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Interment was held in St. Ignatius Parish Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
The mass will be livestreamed with the link that is posted below.
For those who knew Betty and wish to honour her memory you are encouraged to say a little prayer, sip on some cherry whiskey, find a good song to sing and enjoy the best potato salad and cabbage rolls you can find.
