Collin made continual and profound sacrifices for others. He spent endless hours advocating for First Nations children and helping others with what he knew. I would say that he was tireless in his work, but he frequently was tired of all of the obstacles and barriers that he encountered everywhere that were placed in the way of the best interests of the child – such a loaded phrase that took on a lot of different meanings, depending on who was saying it and what their agenda was. Collin truly always had the best interests of the child in mind, and he knew that First Nations were the only ones who could provide that for their own children. I saw Collin stand up to everyone – individuals and courts and governments alike. He was the foremost expert on child and family services for First Nations in Canada, and likely in the world, and he dedicated his life to helping others understand the path they needed to walk, the cultural path, in order to bring them back to themselves. Until we meet again, thank you for all you have done, my friend. Mitakuye Oyasin. Tókša Akhé. Theresa

Collin's commitment to First Nations children and families inspired so much positive change. He was an early and important leader promoting First Nations jurisdiction and stressed the importance of Nations learning from, and supporting one another. I was so grateful to learn from his example.

May his memory always be a blessing to his family, friends and to all of the First Nations children and families across Canada.
