She maintained ties with her relatives on the Sakimay First Nations, where she and her family would visit during the summer when she was growing up. An avid sports woman, Dot participated in competitive and non-competitive fastball, and was a huge fan of Nascar racing. She loved to relax by getting together with friends to play a few rounds of pool, at which she became accomplished and was known to win quite often.
