Born to Edwin and Mary Olver in the Graytown area, Evelyn completed her schooling, stayed near home and married Cecil Park in 1942. They farmed in the area and Evelyn continued living on the farm years after Cecil’s passing. She moved into Rudyard Manor in Kipling in about 1995. Evelyn was active in the Corning community. She was a member of the United Church Women’s Association and was always ready to make food for meetings or assist with Fall Suppers. Her angel food cake and butter tarts were the best and there were frequent requests for her to bake for a community function.
Evelyn wrote articles for the local Corning and Kipling newspapers, keeping everyone informed and up to date on local happenings and visitors to the area. She enjoyed dancing and loved a good card game. Evelyn was a wonderful cook and her baking skills eventually moved to decorating cakes, especially wedding cakes. Recently in Deer View Lodge one of the staff commented to her that she had decorated their wedding cake. She loved to sew and took up quilting to pass the time. We still have many quilts that mom made for us. She never lacked creatively and style. Evelyn was a classy dresser and kept up with fashion and clothing trends.
She was always available to transport her children and their classmates to sporting events in the school district. Evelyn was also happy to drive her friends (who didn’t drive) for appointments and outings. She gave up her driver license only three years ago. Evelyn became the neighbourhood “grandmother” and babysat a number of children. Many still came to visit her 20 - 30 years later. Evelyn travelled to Whitehorse, YT and Hawaii with Scott and Cecil, to Singapore with Scott and Sandra, St. John’s Newfoundland with Gerry and Lynore. Later she went on several bus trips with friends.
Evelyn was an independent and self determined person, living on her own until a year and a half ago and making her own decisions until the end. She was modest, kind and generous and often referred to as “such a nice lady”. She loved her family and was dedicated to her friends and community. Evelyn was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all.
A graveside service for Evelyn was held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Graytown Cemetery, Corning District, Saskatchewan with Lynette Callfas officiating. Luncheon followed in Kipling Friendship Club, Kipling, Saskatchewan.
