Hello everybody
I don't know if my first message got to you. However, I just want you to know that you are in my thoughts at this difficult time. I was in Estevan 5 years ago, for a couple of days, but failed to locate you. It was great to read that the strong family unit Galen strove to create were all there for him at the end. Such a generous and unassuming man I can still remember the number of times I woke him up @ 2am on the way back from " The Derrick ", never once did he complain. A man who in many ways I have modeled my own family life on - extolling the virtues of honesty, dignity and hard work to my own children. Even as a young man I used to think what a perfect match Galen and Mary were - the strong silent type combined with the "mad" extrovert.
I will sign off for now but still wish to extend our sympathy and you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Fondest regards to you Mary and your children, Veronica, Joe,and Connie. I now live in the Republic of Ireland near Cork City. It would be great to catch up if you feel inclined to reply to this e-mail
Yours
Peter Melia and family

Mary and family
Deeply saddened today with the passing of my dear friend Galen. He and I go back a long way with the Sask Games and enjoyed it so much when he and I were "roomies" during our mission staff times. Galen was always listened to at meetings because if Galen had something to say it was well though out and very relevant to the issue. I have so many fond memories of our conversations as we drove back and forth across Saskatchewan to meetings with SPRA and other groups. He was a prince of a man and will live in the hearts of those that loved him forever. Also have pleasant memories of coaching against the girls in basketball and having Joe in my phys.ed. class in Weyburn.

I am the granddaughter of Norbert F. Wahlmeier, growing up I heard so much wonderful news about Great Uncle Galen. He was truly blessed. He had so many accomplishments, he sounded like a wonderman. I am glad i was able to have met him, but i wish I gotten to know all of 14 Wahlmeier children of Aloysius. I was at the farm in the summer of 1994.

I was a student at Campion College High School in Regina in the early 1960s. In those days at Campion most of the teachers were Jesuits, either priests or scholastics, but Galen Wahlmeier ("Mr. Wahlmeier" for students) taught Health and Physical Education. I remember him as being a remarkably fit and athletically-gifted man and as a very good and thorough teacher. My condolences to his family.

I never had the opportunity to know Galen well but did have the privilege of meeting him on occasion. We appreciate and applaud the efforts that Galen made during his tenure at City Hall.
I would like to extend condolences to the entire Wahlmeier family on behalf to myself, council and staff of the City of Estevan.

Sincerely
Mayor Roy Ludwig

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of "hanging out" with the Wahlmeiers, whether it be in your home in Estevan, on a basketball or volleyball court or driving to yet another tournament. May your memories of the good times comfort you through this difficult time.
