George William Dodd

June 25, 1955March 2, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce that George surrendered peacefully on March 2, 2020 in the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan after having faced his battle with brain cancer with incredible courage, determination and humour. A celebration of George’s life will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan on Monday, March 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. The family will conduct a private graveside service in Lakeview Cemetery.

George was predeceased by his parents Bill and Muriel (Richards) Dodd and his father and mother-in-law Clair and Eva Ptolemy. He is survived and will be missed tremendously by his wife of 37 years, Bev (Ptolemy) his daughters Kelly (JC) and Ashley; sister Janet Bedel (Murray); brothers and sisters-in-law Barry (Bev) Ptolemy, Dianne (Brian) McCaw and Cindy Ptolemy as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends that he considered as family.

George was a carpenter, cabinet maker and installed flooring. He excelled at these things right up to his death. There are a great many homes and businesses in Fort Qu’Appelle and area that have cupboards made by GW Dodd Cabinets. He was a devoted family man and coached, assisted and attended all of his girl’s events in curling, ball and hockey. He was an avid curler starting in his high school days continuing up to his last days, making lifelong friends. In the summer George and Bev loved to go camping with friends and in the winter they enjoyed vacationing in Mexico with family and friends. Another of his great pleasures was his involvement with the Fort Knox Hockey Team. He served as a member of the executive and loved working the score clock at the games, often rescheduling family suppers and events so as not to miss a game.

The family would like to thank everyone for the endless love and support they have received over the past 6 months.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in George’s memory to the Fort Qu’Appelle Curling Club, Box 806 Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0 or the Fort Knox Hockey Team, Box 1624 Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0.

Bev and Girls:

George and I first met Many Many years ago... He was just starting his cabinet business and I needed cabinets built... He was recommended to me by Gord, a recommendation that I have always appreciated..

George's workmanship has lasted the test of time, much like his Wit, Smile and Kindness.

A few years back Wanda and I started curling at the Fort, that is when we really got to know George. He took his curling seriously, always trying to improve his game and willing to help others.. He was curling for all the Right Reasons.. A True Gentleman on and off the ice.

His tireless work of promoting the Fort Club will be missed.

When he curled with me in the play downs I saw just how much he loved the sport and people... Win or lose it was always about doing your Best, But more importantly, having a Good time..

George Dodd: Your Craftsmanship will Last the Test of Time, Your Kindness, Constant Smile and Good Humour will be sorely missed.

Rest In Peace Friend

Bev and Family: our Thoughts and Prayers are with U on Your Tremendous Loss

Dear Bev, Kelly, Ashley, Janet, Murray and Family,
Although we knew this sad day was coming, we were not prepared for it to be this soon. We have had you in our thoughts the past few months, and sincerely hope that knowing others care helps to give you much needed strength. We are still in AZ or we would most certainly have attended on Monday. We will always remember George as someone who added levity to even serious situations. He had a very endearing sense of humor. I am sure you have many warm memories of happy times enjoyed together. May those thoughts ease your burden of loss now, and in the dark days to come, and may you soon have nothing but comforting and happy memories. Know that you enriched George's life, and gave him many reasons to be proud. Take comfort in knowing that although his years were cut short, he enjoyed much "life" in those years, and you all added to that.

So sorry to hear on George's passing Bev, and also to Kelly and Ashley on the loss of your dad. To this day, I have memories of our infamous adventure to one of the first Craven Jamboree's, with me and Diane McP joining you two for the weekend. Was also a pleasure to visit with George every time I seen him, and the last time was at your dad's service Bev. For now, I send you a virtual hug, and will definitely give you a real hug when I see you. Keep your precious memories with you for all time.
