Gina Moorhead

Gina Fiorindina Moorhead (nee Salerno) passed away peacefully on April 2, 2020 in Broadview, SK, surrounded at home by her family and close friend. She fought a long and courageous battle against pancreatic cancer and we are all so proud of her fight. Gina was predeceased by her infant son Daniel, her parents Nicola and Fiorinda Salerno and her sister Lina Heilman. Gina is survived by her son Bryan Moorhead (Danielle) and their children Ayress, Ethan, Brody and Atalie, and her daughter Raelynn Norbeck (Preston) and their daughter Kenlee and new baby arriving in early June, her brother Fred Salerno (Heather), numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Sandi Arneson, Shelley Sentes and Lynette Nicholas.

Gina was born in Outlook, SK on October 20, 1956 and remained there until her family moved to Moose Jaw, SK. When she was 13, the Salerno family moved to Milestone, SK as her parents had purchased the Milestone Homestead Hotel. Gina remained in Milestone where she married and raised her two children. She worked at the L&B Store and the CIBC, before beginning an 18 year career at DirectWest in Regina. Gina adored her DirectWest ‘family’ and had always hoped to return there to finish off her years of service before retirement. The family thanks DW for the way you have honored our mom.

Gina was well known and loved by everyone in Milestone and surrounding areas. She was renowned for speaking her mind and for her strong Italian temperament... aka “The Look”. She was very social and enjoyed meeting her group of friends for breakfast and coffee at the local restaurant, telling everyone about the latest happenings of her pride and joy – her grandkids.

Gina’s passions included being an Epicure consultant, perusing varage sale sites and attending garage sales at various communities during the warmer months. She took great pride in her Italian heritage and was always happy to be in the kitchen preparing traditional Italian recipes, which she loved to share with her family, friends and people of her community. She had many lifelong friends that she loved spending time with every chance she could. She always looked forward to her “Class of ‘74” social gatherings and spoke of these ladies and classmates often.

Gina’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Iqbal, Dorianne and LaRae of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre; to the nurses of 3B at the Pasqua Hospital; and to Kelley, Cheryl, Ramona and the other wonderful CCAs of Broadview, SK.

A celebration of Gina’s life will be held at a later date. Flowers most gratefully declined.
