Grant Janes

February 26, 1965May 9, 2021

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the untimely passing of Grant Robert Janes on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the age of 56 years. In his final days he was surrounded by his loves ones at the Palliative Care Unit in the Pasqua Hospital. Grant fought a hard battle over the past 11 months and is now finally pain free and at peace. He was welcomed into heaven by his mom and dad, Bill and Grace Janes, and all his family and friends that were predeceased before him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving partner and soul mate, Alison Smith, her children Stephanie (Troy), Cameron (Sabrina) and Nelson Smith; Alison’s grandchildren Aiden, Alastair & Amara; daughter, Stephanie; treasured sister, Janet (James) Breti, Amy (Dennis), Brooke, Nathan (Sarah) and great nephew, Bryson; step-mom Rita Janes and dearly loved Aunty Marybelle; Aunt Doreen and Ray; and loved like his own parents, Larry and Helen Fry.

Grant was born in Cupar, SK on February 26, 1965 and grew up on the Janes family farm south of Lestock. Grant worked various road constructions jobs and then accepted a job with the R.M. of Lipton in 2004 where he remained until present. Outside of his career, Grant pursued his dream of farming. When not grading roads or farming, he enjoyed crop checking with Alison, curling, golfing, and socializing with family and friends. He also loved to fish, camp, spend time with his two dogs and cat, and was known to drink a few kokanees’ while instilling his wisdom to others.

Special thanks to our neighbors, relatives and friends for all your well wishes and offers of help with the farm.

We know Grant will be looking down at us, while he grade’s the roads and farms the fields of heaven.

Once the Covid restrictions have been lessened to accommodate all who wish to attend, a celebration of life will be announced on this website.

If friends so desire, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Grant was just 5 years old when we became neighbors to the Janes family & he was still the same happy go lucky guy all these years later, he loved to chat & had that giggle that only Grant could have. He would do anything to help when a hand was needed & worked long hours between his RM job & farming. He loved his animals & nature but most of all he adored Alison & said many times how fortunate he was to have her in his life. Rest easy Grant & know that you are missed.
