Greg Wallace

May 12, 1955September 24, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce Greg’s passing at age 66 due to complications from a brain bleed. He will be dearly missed. Greg was born at Montmartre, SK, grew up on the family farm near Moffat and attended school at Wolseley, SK.

His career in the Credit Union (CU) system started as a teller in Wolseley in 1972. He advanced to loans officer, manager at age 19 and at CU Central from 1976 until his retirement in 2008 after 36 years. He held many management and executive positions for 25 years and worked in Toronto from 1983-1985. He did cooperative work in Belize, Australia and Uganda and he consulted at Innovation CU in Swift Current until 2010. He co-wrote a book with Terry MacDonald and Ian MacPherson called Co-operative Development: Building a Better World. In 2017 he was appointed to the CU Deposit Guarantee Corporation board and became the chair in 2020.

Greg loved both sides of our families and could always be relied on in any situation. He also loved travelling, cruising, spending part of the winter in Mexico, reading, building models, playing cards, developing the property at Katepwa Lake, camping and relaxing on the pontoon boat.

Greg was predeceased by his son Clayton; parents Percy and Dini Wallace; brother Craig; parents-in-law Mike and Vicky Erza; sister-in-law Theresa McLeod and brother-in law Brian Erza.

Greg leaves to mourn his wife Sandy of 47 years; son Kent (Alex Boctor); grandson Julian and his mom Kelly Therrien; sister Vivian (Tom) Malach and their children Lynn (Kevin) Colquhoun (Colton & Carson), Kerry (Tim) Mickelborough (Jasmin) and Maureen Malach; sister Carol (Rick) Flight; sister-in-law Fern Wallace (Ken Hale) and her children Tricia (Mark) Guidinger (Ethan & Emma), Kelly (Jody) Beauchemin (Gavin & Mason), Lorrie (Trent) Sorowski (Greyson & Beckam), and Kristin Wallace (Chance); sister-in-law Theresa’s children Kim (Tim) Rose (Colby, Gracyn, Carson & Mykenna) and Kendrick Knoll; sister-in-law Margaret Elliott (Bobby Webster) and her children Raelene (John) Kuffner (Kennedy & Kamdyn) and Dustin (Noah & Talia); brother-in-law Andy (Grace) Erza (Hayley & Jamie, Ian and Andrew); brother-in-law Garry Erza; three Canadian first cousins and their families and many relatives in Holland.

Very sad to hear about Greg's passing. I've had a chance to work with Greg during my career and found him to be one of the most knowledgeable visionaries that I have met. His mind and ability to communicate was second to none. Not that this is about work but his contributions of the credit union system is substantial and significant. Greg was always very a positive and approachable leader and a true mentor for me. Deepest sympathy to the family and friends.

Dear Sandy and Family ....... I was Sooo Saddened by the news of Greg's untimely passing. He was a Solid Peer, friend and co-worker for decades. No doubt he will be greatly missed as a family member, friend and coworker. From time to time we traveled together, had some great laughs and exchanged some great work related stories. It was never a dull moment and to this day I still smile with the satisfaction that I knew Greg. Thank You for sharing the Funeral Service yesterday through the streaming service. Bonnie and I were so darn pleased to be able to attend and Thank You for that Opportunity . God Bless You and Your Family Sandy.

I am still trying to imagine life without Greg. He was such an icon in the credit union system. He provided a great deal of support to me in the years I worked closely with him. At the same time he took care of his family and loved them dearly. Greg will be in my heart and spirit always. Prayers to Sandy and Kent as well as all his family.
