On Saturday, October 24, 2020, James Figgitt, Balcarres Sask., passed away in Ituna, Sask. at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his parents Elsie and Walter, siblings Emma (Molly) Blayone, Elsie Storts, Betty Grams, Walter, Wilfred, and Herbert (Short) Figgitt. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Alec (Edna), and sister Winnie Henley.
Jim has been married to Delores (nee Dockray) for 55 years. They share two sons, Bradly (Penny Herzberger) and Kelly (Sherianne Uliski). His greatest pride are his 5 grandchildren, Teja (Tyler), Chase, Kieran, Kyla and Kiana and great granddaughter Emmie (daughter of Teja and Tyler).
Jim lived his entire life in the Tullymet/Balcarres area. He loved farming with his dad. Jim and Delores shared a farmyard with Jim’s parents and Short, and eventually Jim and Delores took over the farm.
Jim enjoyed being busy and volunteered much of his time at the curling and skating rink all throughout the winter. Spring and summer found him at the ball diamonds watching ball and working the sports days for Canada day. Jim also spent countless hours helping at the Legion and Anglican church. His favourite times were playing cards, mini sticks, and baseball with the grandkids. He proudly attended their hockey games, baseball games, basketball games, volleyball games, bowling matches, dance and music recitals, and bragged about them to anyone who would listen.
Jim could be found daily uptown for morning and afternoon coffee to get a visit in with his many friends. Jim loved going for a drive out to the farm to “check crops”. His favourite passengers were the grandkids, teaching them about the crops, and sharing stories of his family, his childhood, and times gone by.
With love and cherished memories for a long life well lived his family and friends will always remember him. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Lindy Olafson, Kami as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service took place October 30, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Paul Anglican Church, Balcarres.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Balcarres Centennial Arena, Box 130 Balcarres SK., S0G 0C0.
