John was born in Fillmore, Saskatchewan on July 21, 1935, and moved to Broadview when he was 3 years old. After a long courtship, he married Louise Norbeck of Broadview on December 22, 1960. They started their life together in Regina where he spent 15 years as a roofer. In 1970 they moved with their 3 children to Fernie, British Columbia.
The first year in Fernie, John worked as a roofing foreman. Later he spent 19 years working at the local coal mine in Sparwood, British Columbia. John and Louise moved to Vernon, British Columbia in 1994 and spent many happy years there and made many long-lasting friendships. In 2007 they returned to Broadview and in 2021 moved back to Regina.
John enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and socializing with his many friends. He enjoyed playing snooker and listening to country music, especially music by Western Senators. He loved to dance and often found his dance card filled while Louise had to patiently wait for a turn. The winters in Fernie were spent snowmobiling and John took up downhill skiing at the age 40! There were also many happy and fun winters spent in Yuma, Arizona.
John is survived by his wife Louise; his three children: Suzanne (Bryan) Harrad, Heather (Bill) Jones and John (Ginnett); two grandsons Adam and Garrett Harrad and also by eight step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his parents Robert and Marion; brothers Alexander (Alex) and William (Bill); sisters Jean Kemp and Alice Brown and parents-in-law Otto and Carrie Norbeck.
A celebration of life was held in the Happy Hours Club, Broadview on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
