MOSKOWY - On Wednesday, August 7, 2013, John Andrew Moskowy, Oakshella, SK., passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years after a lengthy but courageous battle with cancer. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Name of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Broadview, Sask., on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. by the Rev. Ed Hengen, with interment following in the Percival Cemetery. Predeceased by his wife Marion Moskowy (Hawkes), parents, Kasey and Mary (Kozak) Moskowy, brothers, Martin, Teddy, Tony, Edmund (Joe) and sister, Rose. John is survived by his children Glenn (Laurie), Red Deer, AB.; Dean, Vancouver BC.; Kelly (Stacee), Regina, SK.; and Lisa (Colin), White City, SK.; and grandchildren Elliott, Madison, Braeden, Brooklyn, and Carly. His siblings Laurence (Marion), Milestone, SK.; Isabel Lovas, Campbell River, B.C.; Agnes Ottman, Regina, SK.; Louise Lindberg, Calgary, AB.; sister-in-law Bette Hawkes, Winnipeg, MB.; and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. John was a devoted father, hardworking, strong, loving and gentle. He loved his family and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. He followed each of them closely and was also interested to hear what was happening in their lives. John was a friend to many in the Grenfell, Oakshella and Broadview district. In his youth he was an excellent athlete and later a fan of most sports including baseball, hockey, curling and CFL football. As an athlete he was the catcher and an integral part of the legendary Cullins Lake fastball team dynasty that won the Saskatchewan Men's championship in 1954. This was an accomplishment he was very proud of.
