

With sadness the family of Margaret Fitz-Gerald (nee MacKay) announce her passing at Pasqua Hospital on Monday April 1, 2013. Margaret, fondly known to her family and friends as Peggy, was born in Saskatoon, SK on May 26, 1928 to parents Violet and James MacKay. Completing her schooling in Saskatoon, Peggy went on to the University of Saskatchewan where she met and later married Gerry Fitz-Gerald on June 4, 1949. After briefly living in Nipawin, Peggy and Gerry moved to Colonsay where the first 4 of their children – Mary, Brian, Maurice and John joined the family. Moving to Edmonton in 1955 they added two more children, Sheila and James. In 1963, they moved to the family homestead in Grenfell Saskatchewan where Peggy’s love of the farm included tending her garden and yard and all aspects of farm life. In 1979, Peggy and Gerry retired to the town of Grenfell where Peggy continued her involvement in the community including the Grenfell Museum, the Anglican Church and ACW, and countless other activities. She had many passions and hobbies including swimming, walking, watching sports, quilting and genealogy. Most of all, Peggy loved to spend time with her family including her 6 children, 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday. Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of 63 years Gerry, her brother Richie and her beautiful granddaughter Shannon. She is survived by her children: Mary and Ken, Brian and Heather, Maurice and Fiona, John and Wendy, Sheila, James and Barb. She is also survived by her sister Jean, her brother John, her sisters in law Sheila and Oonagh and many nieces and nephews. The family extends its thanks and gratitude to the staff at Century Care Home – Salud, Ahmed, Gail, Darlene and Jovi for ensuring that Peggy’s final days were filled with warmth and care. The family also thanks the Pasqua Hospital Staff for their many acts of kindness. A Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held in St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church, Grenfell, SK., on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Willie Lourens officiating. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the MS Society of Canada, The Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada, and the Save the Pool Fund, Grenfell Saskatchewan.
