Margaret Rose Starblanket

Margaret Rose Starblanket (Bernice), “Cahkasinastew Kihew Iskwew” Spotted Eagle Woman was born on Little Black Bear First Nation on June 29, 1941 and passed away peacefully on June 1, 2021 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 79.

Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Chief Irvin G Starblanket of Star Blanket Cree Nation; parents Robert Akapew Sr. and Alma Akapew (Favel); brothers: Campbell, Gilbert and Robert; sisters: Hazel, Alice, Catherine and Shirley; grandsons: Waylon, Jonathan and Byron and sons-in-law Mitchell and Jackie.

Margaret is survived by her sisters: Elsie Kinequon, Doris Starr and Ruth Keewatin; brothers: William (Marlene) Akapew, Kenneth and Sidney (Joanne) Akapew; her children: Verna (Brian) & their children Reah, Jenna (Willie), Bryant, Denita & children Brendan, Jeremy (Dakota), Kristen (Lance), Matthew, Joanne (Gary) & children Ariane, Justin (Vee), Landon (Tasha), Shalaine (Shavor), Jamin, Brooks, Cynthia & children Tyrell, Arlen (Hayley), Brett, Janessa, Sonia (Chief Mike) & children Tenelle, Skyler, Sharidy (Toby) & children Todd, Samantha, Fawn & McKenna; granddaughter she raised Tianna; 46 great-grandchildren she adored so much; many adopted children and grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

Margaret loved and cared for her family and home community. She was humble and beautiful and was a loving, respected Elder. She will be greatly missed.

The family thanks the doctors and nurses, FN Health Services at RGH for the compassionate care and support she received, thank you to the Fire-keepers, Drum (singers), Riders (Horses), Kitchen Helpers/Cleaners, SBCN Chief & Council, FHQ Tribal Council, FSIN, SBCN Community, FH Health Services, respected Elders & everyone in attendance and also all who contributed food, supplies & assistance. Thank you to the numerous Elders, Pastors, Friends and Family who extended prayers, comfort and sympathy during this time.
