It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mom, Granny, Great-Granny and true friend on May 1, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Although her departure leaves a large void in our hearts and she will be deeply missed, many fond memories will live on forever.
Marion was predeceased by Clare, her husband of 57 years, in July 2008 as well as her parents, Charles and Marion Kingdon in the 1970s. Also waiting to greet her are many dogs and cats she so dearly loved throughout her life.
Marion is survived by her four children, Wendy (Randy), Janice, Martin and Charlotte. Granny leaves behind eight grandchildren: Casey, Morgan, Hayley (Rick) and Marty; Tyler (Emily), Travis (Franny), Tess (John) and Thomas; fourteen great-grandchildren ranging in age from 22 years to 2 months added much joy to Marion’s life: Elias, Jada, Odessa, Sunny, Meryk, Kingston, Coco, Sweedah, Olive, Lincoln, Memphis, Gibson, Ruby and Dorie. Such a beautiful legacy! She will also be missed by her friend Norma who, for the past three years, provided many visits and care to Mom along with delicious meals and treats!
Granny was definitely one of a kind and had a heart of gold. Her quick wit and sarcasm will be missed. Mom was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was a wonderful homemaker, a great cook, loved to bake, was an excellent seamstress and had a huge green thumb in her yard. It seemed like everything liked to grow where she lived! Mom loved to knit, and her colorful sweaters and afghans are cherished by many in the family who were lucky enough to receive one.
Golf quickly became her favourite pastime when her and Dad moved to Regina Beach. Many happy hours on the deck were had after a round. Her love of travelling took her to various destinations in the United States to golf and snow ski, but she really loved her trips to Mexico where, on one trip, her and Charlie did a bit of backpacking!
Clare and Marion moved to Pemberton, British Columbia in 1993 (where Marty and Charlie lived) and quickly became part of the community, volunteering at the golf course in the summers and Whistler Mountain in the winters. Both of them loved golfing and skiing and did so as long as they were able. They made many close friends there and we all have many great memories of good times spent there. After Dad’s passing, Mom moved back to Regina for a few years until her heart took her back to Pemberton then to Salmon Arm where she lived until she returned to Regina for the rest of her life. Her last three years were spent at Harbour Landing Village where she quickly became one of the staff’s favourite residents! We always made sure that she had a stash of wine gums, jube jubes, licorice allsorts and other treats to munch on and share with her visitors. Her whiteboard had the Blue Jays and Raptors schedules updated so she didn’t miss a game! And she sure loved her CNN and was always current with what was happening in the world. The wonderful staff will surely miss her sense of humour and daily conversations…we all will.
At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral service. Her family will gather to celebrate her long life and scatter her remains at a few of her favourite spots!
Till we meet again….love you forever!!
