Martha came into this world on the family farm near Mazenod, Saskatchewan on Sept 28, 1933 the seventh child of Gottfried and Regina Schultz where they lived until she was 13. Their family then moved to the Lake Valley area to farm, where she worked on the family farm and in Moose Jaw until she decided to move to Kamloops, BC with her girlfriends where she worked in dietary at the Kamloops Tuberculosis Hospital until it closed in 1958. Martha then decided to return to Saskatchewan where she started working in the Regina General Hospital also in dietary, it was in Regina that she met our dad, Bob and soon got married and started their family. Bob and Martha raised five children, four boys, including a set of twins and one daughter. Family was important to Martha, she was a devoted Homemaker and stay at home mom, who loved her garden, flowers, cooking and baking. Her baking would have won awards – buns, bread and pies were her specialties and her shortbread was the best!
Martha loved life and enjoyed travelling, spending several years on holidays near Mission, Texas with Bob at their condominium, making many friends. They also travelled to Florida to Disneyworld, Hawaii with her sister and husband Elma and Ted, and once celebrated their anniversary in Ontario at an Octoberfest, along with many other exciting destinations making wonderful memories.
Martha had a passion for gardening; she thoroughly enjoyed both the vegetable garden and flowers. Mom and Dad always had a huge garden, which they tended to ensure a bountiful crop of everything they planted. She enjoyed making pickles, jams, jelly, and relish to name a few. Her love of her flowerbeds were known by everyone as she was a long-time member of the Fort Qu’Appelle Horticultural Society where she took great pride being a member, winning many awards & spending many hours with her garden & flower loving friends. Martha also found great delight in feeding her birds, deer and the resident squirrels that came to visit her daily. They were more like her pets and would just about eat out of her hand. She enjoyed bi-weekly with friends in each other’s homes for fellowship over a game of Bunco, enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafting, sewing and outings for coffee at the local A&W and Dairy Queen.
Martha’s Christian faith was very important to her; she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church where she attended weekly services. Mom was a strong and courageous woman who fought a long and hard battle against Cancer, which she sadly lost on this day in August.
Martha was predeceased by her parents; husband Bob; siblings: Elsie (Ted), Elma (Ted), Pauline, Frida (Ed), Irene (Ted), Alfred and Millie.
Martha will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karla; sons: Bradley (Karen), Brian, Leslie and Gordon; 10 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren, her brothers-in-law Dale and Jake as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
