Martin Kress September 29, 1927 - August 31, 2020

“Whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable – if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” - Philippians 4.8

One month shy of his 93rd birthday, Martin Kress was welcomed into the eternal banquet halls by his Saviour.

Martin was a man of integrity, with an inherent awareness of the depths of family, faith, fun, farming, community and dedication.

The beloved soul mate of his wife Elizabeth “Betty” for over 72 years, the proud father of 11 children, 45 grandchildren and over 90 great-grandchildren. These are his greatest legacy which will honour his name and memory.

A man of prayer, an active member of St. Ignatius Parish in Kendal for his whole life and a proud fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus he served his faith community well.

Always a jokester, with a hardy laugh, a gripping handshake, ready to raise a glass and dance well into night he ensured the good times and fun lasted as long as they could.

A lifelong farmer and learner he valued the land and the hard work to produce a harvest that would feed not only his family but help feed the world.

He served the community of Kendal and the R.M. of Montmartre in roles of leadership for many years and encouraged his family and neighbours to also support their local communities.

Dedication is what flowed through the blood of Martin and how he lived his life until his last breath.

Martin was predeceased by his parents, in-laws and siblings, daughter Delphine, son-in-law John and grandsons Nicholas and Bradley.

He is survived and remembered by his loving wife Betty and their children Doreen (Adelard); Paul (Therese); Linda (John); Lorraine (John); Lorette (Richard); Jerome (Debbie); Audrey (Keith); Cynthia (David); Lionel (Sandra); Jacalyn (Darwin) and Dave (Carolyn) and their families, along with one sister-in-law Magdalena.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private family funeral mass will be celebrated.

For those who knew Martin and wish to honour his memory you are encouraged to say a prayer, raise a toast of your favorite red wine or sherry and enjoy some KFC.

If friends so desire, contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Memorial Fund, c/o Kathy Weichel, Box 435, Montmartre, SK S0G 3M0 or to the Calvary Memorial Shrine, c/o St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Candiac, SK S0G 0N0.

“And the seeds that fell on the good ground, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear much fruit with patient endurance.” – Luke 8:15

It is with a heavy heart that share the sorrow of the passing of Uncle Martin.
Condolences, prayers and love to Aunt Betty and families.

He brings back many wonderful memories:
... a man with so much pride in his family and of all their accomplishments. I especially remember at Christmas time we’d all gather at G’ma and G’pa Kuntz’s, in Regina. He’d prepared their children to sing The Little Drummer Boy. That’s when it first came out. AMAZING!
... a warm welcome accompanied with a firm handshake and usually a little grin ready for - well, you never knew what!

I’m proud to call you my ‘Uncle’.

Uncle Martin reminded me most of my dad and his brother, Wendel. He had a lot of pride and integrity with a bit of a mischievous side. Always had a sense of humor and liked to tease. He was my last living Uncle and will be missed. RIP...

My deepest condolences to Aunt Betty and each and every one of the family.
Uncle Martin was such a strong man who loved family and laughter. He liked to tease as well.
When all the cousins were little and we were at an anniversary I remember Uncle Martin getting us all to dance. Some didn’t really want to but we all did. And had so much fun doing it.
When I was little I was a little afraid of his strong loud voice. But as the years passed and I was older I saw this gentle and kind man whom I was proud to call my Uncle.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him but has left a legacy to be so proud of.
Rest In Peace Uncle Martin. 🙏😥

I so fondly remember watching a light and happy conversation between Uncle Martin and my Grandpa at his 95th birthday gathering. It was evident that they had a very special relationship. ❤️ I can’t help but think that they are smiling and enjoying that friendship once again. Sending much love to Aunt Betty and everyone whose heart is aching from having to say goodbye to this very special man. Peace and love be with you all.
