He was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth and father Monsey Sr.
Left to mourn his loss, cherish his memories and carry on his golf game is his loving wife Bonnie; his children: Jaime, Jodie, Jennifer, Tabatha and Terri; his grandchildren: Daymon, Dilyn, Jadyn, Hailey, Cashton, Garreth, Lynnea, Jacelyn, Fisher, Zac, Skyla, Zeda and Andie; his brother Alister and numerous nieces and nephews...such as Ronda.
Monsey was born April 1, 1951 to Monsey and Elizabeth Capeling. Raised in Moose Jaw, SK, he was a singer, goalie, curler, base ball player and terror of the Moose Jaw tunnels. He was an accomplished piano player as well enjoyed singing in the Choir.
After graduating High School, Monsey chased the clouds and became a Weather Observer in too many places to mention. This was his first career which allowed Monsey to meet the storm of his life, Bonnie in Broadview.
Tabatha, Terri and Jaime formed a blended family followed by Jodie and Jennifer. A move to Gillam thru Environment Canada who Monsey worked for, also resulted in Bonnie working for Canada Post. They together chartered the first Kinsmen club in Broadview and followed that success with chartering the first club in Gillam. Monsey and Bonnie embraced northern living, where Monsey was heavily involved with curling, hockey, Scouts, ringette and fishing.
They then moved their family to Estevan where Monsey moved from his career as a Weather observer to becoming a Customs Officer at the Oungre Port. Here he met many lifelong friends whom he carried with him through stories and many laughs. This career was Monsey’s true passion, he wore that badge with honor and pride. A move to Midale was followed by a retirement (well semi) and then move to Grenfell where he lived the last years of his life with his wife Bonnie.
Monsey always wanted to be involved in many things and took quickly to becoming involved with the Grenfell Curling Club, Golf Course and was a super fan of the Grenfell Spitfires and Gems. In the last years of his life Monsey enjoyed building bird houses and was a keeper of his Purple Martins as well spent as much time as he could on the golf course pretending to beat everyone. His scores are yet to be verified. Anyone who knew Monsey knew he always had a story, so he was a great one to visit with at coffee.
Monsey’s greatest joy was his family, and being a Grampa. His wealth of knowledge, or what his family liked to say (useless information), was stored in a place nobody will ever know……
Monsey’s Tips we would like to share:
- Don’t sink the ball before you hit it
- Keep your head up
- Don’t plant Potatoes in February
MOST IMPORTANT- You don’t eat, you don’t shit, you don’t shit, you die…………
