On Tuesday, April 19, 2011, Muriel Hanstead, Balcarres, SK., died at the age of 85 years. The funeral service will be held in St. Andrew’s United Church, Balcarres, SK., on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Brian R. Mee officiating. Interment of cremated remains in the Balcarres Cemetery. Predeceased by her first husband Ronald Slater in 1955, her second husband Clarence Hanstead in 2000; parents Edward and Effie Johnson; and siblings: Merrell Johnson, Marion Grosse, Alma Schick and Perry Johnson. Muriel is survived by two daughters: Debra (Brian) Highmoor, Windthorst, SK., and Linda (Dennis) Bullivant, Balcarres, SK.; one son Gordon (Haroldine) Hanstead, Kenora, ON.; grandchildren: Michael Highmoor, Justin Highmoor, Andrea (Daniel) Williams, Nicole (Jason) Lanz, Curtis Bullivant, Greg Hanstead, and Lliana Hanstead; four great grandchildren: Tyson and Carter Williams, Preston Lanz and Anthony Hanstead. Muriel is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Colleen (Tony) Brezinski, Regina, SK., and Blanche Weir, Welland, ON. Muriel lived for her family; family gatherings meant the world to her. Her love of sports spilled over to her family. Muriel also spent much of her life as a dedicated nurse. She will be sadly missed.
