Stanley Robert Smith, formerly of the rural Abernethy district and late of Balcarres passed away in the Balcarres Integrated Care Center on June 9, 2019.

Stan was born on July 24, 1932 in the Abernethy District, son of the late H.H. (Harry) and Charlotte (Emmerson) Smith. Stan was raised and received his public education in the rural district of Pheasant Plain/Blackwood and graduated from Indian Head High School. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, received a Degree in Agriculture and for a number of years was a seasonal [Oct. – Apr] lecturer at the university while farming with his dad and brother Les. Stan married Audrey Hartall, November 6, 1971 and became a full time farmer. He retired from active farming in 1995, continuing to live on the farm for a number of years before moving to Balcarres.

Stan is survived by his wife, Audrey, a resident of the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre; brother Les and Margaret, nephew Paul & Susan Smith (great nephews Matthew & Stephen and great niece Rachelle); niece Melonee & Michael Rose (great nephew Joshua and great niece Emma); sister-in-law Wanda Hartall (widow of Bill) Blain, Cathy & Nancy and families; brother-in-law Doug & Sharon Hartall, Glenda & Brian and families.

Sadly Stan was predeceased by twin sons at birth, and son Robert T. (Bob) in 2017 and sister, Jeanne in February 2019.

A committal service of cremated remains will be held in the Abernethy Cemetery on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon.

We, the family are thankful for the care and concern that the entire staff and medical team of the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre provided to Stan and continue to provide to Audrey.
