Thelma Doreen Sawyer, 78, of Regina, SK, passed into the presence of her Lord on Monday, May 3, 2021. She is survived by her brother Leslie (Mae), niece Karen (Brian), nephew Kevin (Amy), and great-nephews Micah, Judah, William, Brody and Nolan and her aunt Maggie.
Thelma was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn Eileen Sawyer (2009) and her father, Leslie Elsworth (Bunny) Sawyer (1980).
Born in Moosomin, SK, Thelma grew up on the family farm near Langbank, SK. She attended Montgomery School from grades 1-7 then Langbank School for grades 8-12. She accepted Jesus as her saviour around the age of 10 at the Langbank Gospel Chapel with Pastor Jacob Lebsack and at 16 years old she was baptized. After high school she attended and graduated from Briercrest Bible College. She then trained to become a nurse’s aide and later furthered her training to become a LPN. She worked at the Regina General Hospital for 31 years.
Thelma loved animals (especially cats), reading, travel, and music. She travelled extensively and had been all over the world, bringing home many souvenirs and photos. She was passionate about music from an early age and obtained her Royal Conservatory Grade 8 piano and loved to play the accordion. She especially enjoyed the music of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Statler Brothers, Booth Brothers, and anything connected to the Gaither’s! She was quite fond of Elvis impersonator Rory Allen, having attended many of his concerts. She was also regular audience member at the Regina Symphony Orchestra.
After retirement, Thelma volunteered for many years at the Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission and was an active member of Regina Christian Women’s as well as Westhill Park Baptist Church. She loved to be busy and “on the go”!
Thelma’s family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Extendicare for their compassionate care for her over the past year during these unprecedented times.
A private graveside service took place on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kenosee Lake Bible Camp (Box 217 Kenosee Lake, SK S0C 2S0) or to Westhill Park Baptist Church (8025 Sherwood Drive Regina, SK S4Y 1G1).
