January 16, 1942 – January 21, 2021
It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Victoria Edith Prettyshield (Canúba K’í Cuwįtguna) “Pipe Carrier First Born Daughter” on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the age of 79. Victoria was also known in her family and community as “Kooshie”.
She was born on January 16, 1942 on Carry the Kettle Assiniboine Reserve to parents Estella (O’Watch) and Edward Prettyshield. In her early life, she worked at the Wolseley Care Home and Hospital for over 20 years as a dedicated and caring Certified Nursing Assistant. She later worked at the PFRA in Indian Head for many years. She then changed her career path to work at the Qu’Appelle Indian Residential School in Lebret, Saskatchewan until she retired. Throughout her career, she had made numerous life-long friends and acquaintances that she held near to her heart. During her later years, she enjoyed going to Casino Regina, and spending time at Carmichaels Outreach where she met and enjoyed the company of Rhonda Mills.
She is predeceased by her parents Edward and Estella (O’Watch) Prettyshield. Siblings Raymond, Gerald, Victor, brother in infancy, Theresa, and Barbara. She is survived by her daughters Rhoda (Royce, Jon, Thomas, Kenny and families), Courtney (Diamond, Emerald, Garnet and families) and son Garnet (Vicky, Sydney and families). She will be greatly missed by her granddaughter whom she raised with her late partner (Jim) since she was 5, Krystle Nicholls (Chase and Oscar). She will be lovingly remembered by her great-grandson Matai Spencer, her little helper. She is also survived by her siblings Max (Wilma), Carl (Hilda), Joyce, Gladys, and Marie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Victoria was one of the most kind and caring individuals always happy to share a smile and laugh. Her loss will create an unfillable void in the life of her family and other people who she has positively impacted. The family would like to extend our thanks and gratitude’s to Pasqua Hospital (4E) staff, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre (2-5) staff, Occupational Therapists and Regina Homecare staff for the support that they have given them. Lastly, the heartfelt gratitude to Wolseley Tubman Funeral Home.
Victoria will be cremated and laid to rest at a later time when family can safely gather. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, Wolseley, Saskatchewan on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with Bernice Saulteaux officiating.
