

Bruce Willard Passis Shine passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at the age of 91.
Bruce & Barb built their dream home in Woodbury, Minnesota, where they created a life centered on love, learning, service, and generosity. Their partnership was one of deep devotion, shared interests, and unwavering commitment to one another.
Barbara was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. She dedicated her entire professional career to United Hospital, where she served with compassion and excellence as a registered nurse and later as a Clinical Director-Behavioral Heath. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Louise Simon and sister in law, Shawn Simon.
Bruce was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in Spencer, Iowa. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves before pursuing a distinguished career as an economics professor. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ernestine Shine.
Barbara is lovingly survived by her siblings: Judy; Theresa; Mary Jo (Steve); Chuck (Kathy); Tony; Mike (Mary); and many cherished nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great, great nieces & nephews.
Bruce and Barbara will be deeply missed by their Dakota Ave friends and neighbors.
Bruce and Barbara shared a passion for gardening, attending the theatre and opera, studying history, playing games, and spending treasured time at Lake Okoboji. Throughout their lives, they believed strongly in giving back to causes that reflected their values. They generously supported organizations including the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the Anti-Defamation League, the University of Iowa, and numerous community organizations in Spencer, Iowa.
A joint visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Drive, Woodbury, MN 55125. A joint Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon at the funeral home following the service.
Bruce and Barbara will then be laid to rest together with Military Honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, at 1:30 p.m.
After a lifetime of love and more than fifty years side by side, Bruce and Barb will remain together for eternity.
A special thank you to Woodbury Health Care Center, Oak Meadows Senior Living, St. Croix Hospice, and Lifespark Hospice for the extraordinary care, compassion, and dignity they gave not only to Bruce and Barb but to their family and friends in the final months of their lives.
