The greatest Homecoming took place on the morning of Monday, October 6th, as Carroll ascended to eternal peace, reunited with Jesus, his cherished wife Donna, their firstborn son Daniel, his parents Earl and Mae, sisters Doris, Audrey, and Ruth, and his dearly missed brothers Gene and Ken.
Carroll was originally from Onalaska, Wisconsin, but shortly after his birth, the family relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he spent the majority of his life. Known for his dedicated work ethic, Carroll began work at various farms at a young age, including his aunt’s farm in North Dakota and on Sanitary Dairy Farm in White Bear Lake. He took great pride in telling his experience with a particular cow that he tended to and prepared, which ultimately won a Blue Ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair. In 1951, Carroll was enlisted in the U.S. Army, he was deployed to Korea between Oct 1951 - July 1953. While home on a short leave, Carroll married Donna, the love of his life; they enjoyed 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2011. During his service in Korea, one position Carroll held was pugmill operator at Kunsan Air Base. Amidst the conflict he attained the rank of Corporal, ultimately receiving an honorable discharge in 1959. Following his return from Korea Carroll held various occupations, including hauling ice and coal for H&W Ice and Coal Company, working at Union Depot for the railroad for over 17 years, and serving in aviation maintenance at Holman Field for 3M. He retired from 3M after 25 years.
Carroll was an avid woodworker in his spare time, creating a legacy of treasured pieces, including bear carvings, plaques, and figurines, which his family holds dear. Additionally, he enjoyed writing children’s stories, poems, and many jokes. Carroll was never short on humor, even during his final days, he still had a joke, riddle, or tongue twister to share with his family. He could have easily written his own Ole and Lena joke book.
Carroll will be remembered most for his faith and the unconditional love he had for his family. He was the kindest and sweetest man. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. He loved us SO much.
He leaves behind his son Jeff (Brenda), daughter Bonnie, daughter-in-law Debra (Dan), along with 8 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, in addition to numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides at Johanna Shores for their compassion, love, and care extended to Carroll and our family during his time there.
The memorial services will be held on Friday, October 10th, at Gustavus Adolphus Church, located at 1669 Arcade St, St Paul, MN 55106. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:00 AM, after which we will proceed directly to the cemetery.”
