Colin Geraghty died as a result of an automobile accident as he headed to work in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013. He leaves behind his Wife, Ann, and his Step-Sons, Logan & Jax. Colin also leaves behind an extended family that was very proud of where he had come from to become a hardworking and devoted husband and father. Colin Klippel Geraghty was born on November 5, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska. On October 22, 1988, Colin's mom, Ruth Mishel, married Mike Geraghty and they started a family with Colin as Son #1. Four more siblings eventually joined the brood and there were many more cousins, uncles, and aunts. Colin spent his childhood with his active family immersed in sports, family gatherings and vacations, and summertime at the family cabin at Harding Lake. He was an accomplished athlete who played competitive hockey throughout his youth, including two National Championship tournaments. After graduating from Dimond High School in 2003, Colin demonstrated his strength of character when he successfully confronted his personal struggles with determination and grit. He moved to Minneapolis in 2008, where he built a network of supportive friends, enjoyed numerous activities, and met the love of his life, Ann Evans. He became devoted to Ann's kids and in the last month learned that he and Ann would be having a child in September, a son that he was already very proud of. Colin worked in a variety of fields, including home construction, hard wood flooring, and putting his Harding Lake experience to work as a certified pool operator. He recently started a new career with Avis at the Minneapolis Airport, and he was headed to that job on the morning of his fatal accident.
Colin will be remembered for a playful sense of humor, his love of family, generosity of spirit and a remarkable sense of kindness to those in need -- and for his personal courage. Colin is survived by his Maternal Grandparents, Tom & Mary Klippel, with whom he had a very close bond. He also stayed in frequent contact with his 94-year-old Grandmother, Angela Geraghty. In addition he leaves behind his proud and loving parents, Mike & Ruth Mishel Geraghty; his Brothers, Michael “Mickey”, Kiefer & John “Jack”; and his beloved Sister, Devin; his "aunts," Stacy Monaghan (Sean) of Calgary, Pamela Wendt (Brad) of Phoenix, Caprice Springer (Brad) of Anchorage, and Lynn Klippel of Eagle River; his Uncle, Steve Geraghty (Lisa) of Fairbanks; his other “uncles,” Jim Matherly (Moriah), Jeff Matherly, & Steve Elliott, all of Fairbanks; Cousins, Jessi & Matt Pfiester of Fairbanks, Tess & Tommy Klippel of Eagle River, John Vallentine of Prescott, AZ, Stephanie Vallentine of Scottsdale, AZ, and JC Durante, Matt, Alex & Evan Carson, all of Anchorage -- and a host of junior "cousins," too numerous to mention here but loved nonetheless. Colin was preceded in death by his Uncle & Godfather, K.C. Klippel; Grandfather, Clyde Geraghty; Aunts & Uncles, Olga & Ken Carson and Vera & Jim Matherly; and Cousins, Scott Carson & Galena Klippel.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr, Woodbury. Remembrances will be shared at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.
