Deiane completed her jouney on earth December 6th. She was able to die in her own bed as comfortable as we could make her. A few minutes afterwards we all saw a little smile on her face.
Deiane was born on the Winter Solstice 1931. She lived in St. Paul with her parents John and Olivia Shaules and her sister Nanette.
Deiane went to Saint Joseph's Academy where she and her sister Nan made many life long friends. Next she attended St. Kate's and earned a teaching certificate. She taught second grade at St. James School.
In 1955, she went to a classmate's wedding and met Jack Thurner. They married the following year!
Mother was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer more than 12 years ago. It was amazing she lived so well for so long.
We were lucky the summer & fall of 2023 had a number of larger gatherings. She enjoyed all of these: a memorial for dear Kelly Roth, a graduation party for Ava Kaiser, a 90th Birthday with a fancy car show for Bob Roth, a trip to Duluth for Kathy Dahlberg's 80th birthday, a tea party for the Red Hat friends at our home.
When it became more difficult for her to leave the house, we thank all the friends who came for visits. Most frequent was my good friend Jean. We thank her very close friend Betty who phoned her at least once a week.
We thank Georgia for her expertise and many hours of care. Also a bit of extra joy from her "therapy dog" Barkley when he would join us.
Deiane was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, a very good friend and an exceptional home maker! She liked music and travel, was a Red Hatter and a poker player. We will miss her always. The house is too quiet.
Deiane was preceded in death by parents; husband Jack; son Robert and sister Nan.
She is survived by children, John, Thomas (Jodi), Therese and her grandchildren, Jack and Frank.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Wulff Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury, MN 55125.
