Karen,
   We are saddened by your sudden loss of Del.  We believe that you had 45 very happy years, and that you continue to have many more happy years with the families of Lisa, and of David, and your grandchildren.  
   Our good times together with you go back to your high school years.  We remember well that group picnic that we had by the St. Croix River in July 1956.  That picnic also was our second date.  Your date that time was with Bob Dickhudt, who later was Best Man at our wedding in December 1958

   We want to continue sharing Christmas letters with you, as we have over all these many years.

Yesterday, I did not see the photo gallery and thought that I'd look at it today.  After seeing it, I realized how much time that the two of us spent together hunting and fishing.  I lost count somewhere along the line with our trips to Canada fishing and Montana hunting. I think some where close to 40 trips fishing alone into Canada and hunting as far back as 1985 for deer, pheasants, turkey, and grouse in Montana, and of course our "once in a lifetime Minnesota moose hunt, which Dave, you were a part of.  Our yearly trips to Montana with the five of us brothers being together for one week was a highlight of each year.  Last November, Del said to me "I probably will not make it next year".  Well, I think that he'll now keep on hunting forever.

 Yesterday, as we sat in the service, I looked up to the front and noticed the picture of Del holding up the lake trout.  I thought to my self "something is special about that picture".  Then it came to me...I was the person taking that picture, could take you to the exact spot on the lake and I could just "hear" the grin in his face.  You have lost a husband and father and I have lost a  brother, hunting and fishing partner.  Gone, but never forgotten.

I'm so sorry to hear the news of Del's passing. He was a sweet man, quiet and caring.  I am unable to attend the memorial service, but I will be thinking of all of you today.

I am so sorry to hear the news.  It's been a long hard year for all of you and I'm glad he got his hunting in this spring!  It's so hard to lose a loved one. May God give you His peace and comfort as you mourn this loss.

My thoughs and prayers are with your family...

"My other brother "Del".  Remember the Newhart show with the two brothers who were introduced as "this is Del..and this is my other brother Del"?  Well, I had two brothers called Del too.  Delroy was the older of the two, and Ardell is of course, still very much with us.  Delroy and I both shared a love of hunting..which is probably pretty unusual for a brother and sister who are 17 years difference in age.  But, you see, what brought us closer is that we could both talk the talk when it came to hunting and wildlife.  I recall when I was very young..hunting pheasants in southwestern Minnesota on one of our Dad's corn stalk fields.  The current farm dog/black lab was getting pretty old; so a little help retrieving birds was in order.  Del took me with to help scare up birds and retrieve if needed.  I can still remember all the hunting stories told while we all sat around Mom and Dad's dinner table eating freshly harvested pheasants.  And, of course every fall, Del would come out to the home farm to hunt the "slough" for ducks.  It seems all of us had a hand in cleaning the birds while tales of the hunt were told and many laughs were heard.  The birds would then be given to "Ma" to make some stuffing.  She put them all in a huge roaster and cooked them up for dinner.  I can still taste those ducks with homemade sage stuffing.  And, who can forget the home-made minced meat pie topped with Schwan's ice cream?  I know it was one of Del's favorite..as Karen told me he asked for some minced meat pie not long before he passed.

Good bye my dear brother, I will miss you and our hunting stories we shared.. Karen, love you..Lisa and David, you were blessed with a caring and wonderful Dad.  May his memory always be with you all, and God bless you.

We worked togther years ago at Western and then Fortus insurance.  I remembered the name of your husband and I want to express my sympathy in your loss.

I thought of Del as family and have lots of fond memories of him....He was a kind and gentle man who's family was his world. May your hearts be full of his love and know that he will forever be the whisp of wind on your shoulder...as his soul lives and waits for you all as promised...Godspeed Delroy
