Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather Don,
Age 77
Faced Alzheimer's with dignity and grace. His struggle came to a peaceful end on Sept. 21st. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Sheryle; daughters, Catherine (Todd) Ellefson, Ellen (Lee) Gillespie; son, Robert (Lori) Simpson; stepson, Robert (Jane) Leeper; grandchildren, Kyle, Jennifer, Katie, Erin, Connor, Ryan, Joshua, Hannah and Sarah; loving relatives and many dear friends. Don was deeply committed to his wife and family and all activities in his life centered on them, including travel, golf, hunting, mountain climbing, boating, and flying. He was a graduate of the University of North Dakota, proud supporter of the Fighting Sioux and member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served honorably for 30 years in the U. S. Air Force; was Vice President of Operations at the First National Bank of St. Paul; and was a fundraiser at United Way of St. Paul, including the Combined Federal Campaign. Don's kind and gentle soul, and generous personality impacted many and will forever influence our lives. A special thank you to the staff at the Minneapolis Veterans' Home and Hospice of the Twin Cities. A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26th at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury, MN. Family and Friends will gather one hour (10-11 a.m.) prior to the celebration. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lyngblomsten Community Services (respite care) or King of Kings Lutheran Church (in support of programs dear to Don's heart).
